Road to Recovery?

June 30, 2008

Okay, as of this morning I think I *might* live. I finally went to urgent care on Saturday after Tom forced me…they confirmed I did not have bronchitis or pneumonia (thank goodness, as we know someone with each right now). I got a prescription cough medicine to take at night. It helped a little Saturday night but it was really noticeable last night. In fact last night was the first night in the past week that I’m fairly sure I spent more time sleeping then coughing.

The weekend was kind of a wash; I took it pretty easy since I felt so miserable. My best friend threw a bachelorette party for me on Friday; it was pretty tame, thank goodness, because I was so exhausted and miserable that it was all I could do to force myself to leave the house! It was a good time, though, and I am reminded again that I am the luckiest person ever to have Maya as my best friend!

I took an updated picture of the Britty Kitty design, now with the ladybug button:

I spent most of the weekend (when I wasn’t trying to sleep) working on Shepherd’s Bush’s “Sunflower Summer”. Although it’s fairly small, it is taking a lot longer than I would have thought, as is usually the case with Shepherd’s Bush designs for me. I guess it’s because they have a lot of color changes and I really have to read the directions because of the way they’re written. Before the weekend all I’d done was the watermelon band:

I am now 2/3 done with this design; I will finish it tonight or tomorrow, depending on how I’m feeling. If I have any energy at all I plan to spend my free time exercising!

So, that’s what’s new with me. It’s Monday and I’m already ready for a weekend. At least it’s a short week. We’re going camping this weekend with my brother and his wife, and hopefully my other brother as well. Luke is really looking forward to it, as am I. I just need to figure out what we’ll be eating…

Another Small Finish

June 27, 2008

While I was home sick yesterday I did manage to do a little stitching, after taking another nap. I finished up the Brittercup Design, “Basking in the Sun Britty Kitty”:

I bought it as a kit from Needlecraft Corner; I love how they have small “special” kits with the floss on a card and the fabric. Oops, looking at the picture now I realize I forgot to add the ladybug button. I’ll do that tonight and then it will be “really” done.

I’ve been tagged!

June 26, 2008

Three consecutive nights of coughing are bad, but four are intolerable. I finally, FINALLY fell asleep around 4am…so Tom let me sleep in this morning, just checking in briefly when he was leaving to take Luke to ESS (summer program at the school…today is swimming and movie field trip day). He closed all the blinds and said he’d check in around lunch. I slept until almost 10am then got up, had some food, and checked my e-mail. I hate to take the time off work because I have a big vacation planned in July (Zion/Yellowstone/Glacier) and of course the wedding coming up, but I would be completely useless at work. I will probably try to take another nap after I finish writing this!!

Since I am home though, I have time to respond to a tag from Christine:

Where were you 10 years ago? Let’s see…June of 1998. That would be the end of my sophomore year of college, so I was in San Diego working at a biotech company called Aurora Biosciences and probably spending time at the beach.

Five things on your to do list for today.

Since I’m home sick from work today, this is a little different from normal…
1) Take a nap
2) Do at least one load of laundry
3) Get the house straightened up for the maid tomorrow
4) Attend session #2 of pre-marital counseling at church
5) Stitch, if I’m up to it

Normally I would have things like “work” and “exercise” on there, but it’s not a good day!

Snack foods I like.
Sun Chips, especially Harvest Cheddar; peanut butter and celery; pretty much anything that’s sweet (cookies, ice cream, etc)

If I were a billionaire.
Say goodbye to working, buy a bigger house, be a stay at home mom and enjoy travelling and working on my hobbies.

Places I’ve lived.
Ridgecrest, CA; Camarillo, CA; San Diego, CA; Washington state for a brief time when I was little; San Jose, CA; a handful of other places I’m forgetting now

People I want to know more about
Well, most people I know have already been tagged, I think. I’m feeling too crummy to go look and see, so I won’t tag anyone else today. I’ve about reached my limit for being awake right now, so I may do a quick browse of the bulletin boards and then try to take a nap…Did I mention being sick sucks?

Adventures in Orthodontia

June 25, 2008

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned here, but Luke has a severe underbite and his dentist referred him to an orthodontist to have it evaluated. They decided he needed to have an upper expander “appliance”, and after seeing the x-rays I completely understand why. The problem is, he has a horrendous gag reflex. Well yesterday was the day that it finally got installed. It was really, really not a fun experience. What was supposed to take half an hour took an hour and a half. The poor kid threw up five times throughout the experience…glad they requested that I sit in the waiting room, as I know he went to Souplantation for lunch and that’s never fun to watch coming back up.

In the end they did manage to get it in. After about a half hour it was totally fine and he actually thinks it’s “cool”. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him at all, except it’s hard for him to eat. There’s a whole big list of things he can’t eat, and his bites are supposed to be the size of a quarter or smaller. It’s a real challenge since he’s still missing his top front teeth. They said they won’t have me adjust it for a month; we’ll just give him a chance to get used to it. I’m already looking forward to it being done!

In other news, I have a cold. In the summer. Ugh. I was feeling a little off in St. Louis; my lungs and chest hurt, but I attributed it to the fact that people were smoking everywhere (gross, gross, gross!). While this did remind me why I can never live somewhere with less stringent public smoking laws, I don’t think it was entirely to blame. I’ve been up coughing for the last three nights and I am ridiculously tired. I am ready for the weekend already!

St. Louis

June 23, 2008

Thanks for all the comments! Desiree I’m actually getting the candy canvases from The Needlepointer in Washington; I’ve never seen them at Stitcher’s Treasures. They’re a lot of fun; I’m way behind so I’m trying to get caught up. I think I only have 4 left to receive in the mail (I get 2 per month).

We spent last weekend in St. Louis, MO for my cousin’s wedding. I was a little concerned about flooding but it was a total non-issue for our trip. Well, we couldn’t go down to the riverfront road east of the Arch because it was flooded, but the Arch was still open for operation and everything was fine in the city.

It was a pretty good trip, but it was a total whirlwind! Their reception was held at this fabulous spot called Windows Off Washington and I had a great time. I had a bit too much to drink…but all in all it was a great time. My grandmother, who is 91, flew from northern California to attend the wedding and she is totally awesome. If I live to be 91 I want to be exactly like her!

Here are a few photos from the trip. I didn’t even get out my camera during any of the wedding festivities, but we did get to do a small bit of site seeing too. We went up in the Arch. I freaked out just before we got in the little tram (wow, it is really little!) but it was an amazing view and totally worth it.

Views from the top of the Arch:

Our hotel (on the right):

So, that was my weekend! I’m now totally exhausted and ready for another one (weekend, that is; not another whirlwind trip, although I’m very glad we went).

This Makes Nine…

Finishes for the year, that is:

That’s the latest of the Melissa Shirley candies that I’ve stitched, Maple Creme. I finished it last night.

Thanks for all the comments on the Dollhouse finish! I don’t know how I’ll frame it yet; for now it goes in the box with the other finished items, to be dealt with later.

Dollhouse is Done!

June 10, 2008

Just a quick post; I’ve been really busy lately at work and at home. Luke is done with first grade this Thursday; it still doesn’t seem possible! He gets his Tiger Cub badge at the pack meeting tomorrow night so that’s pretty cool. Anyway I did a lot of stitching on Sunday since I needed to take it easy after giving blood. I finally finished the Brightneedle “Dollhouse”. It’s stitched over 1 on 32 count linen. It was hard at first but I got the hang of it and would definitely do more designs on that scale. They’ll be cheaper to frame anyway! So, here it is:

There is a bigger pic up on my flickr site here: http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2047/2567190239_54ae756479_b.jpg
