3rd isn’t bad, either

May 28, 2008

Well, as of last night Luke’s little league season has drawn to a close. They lost their game, 18-3. One of our kids was out with a broken arm and two that played were sick (one with the stomach flu, as I got to witness before the game, oh how fun). Incidentally we never made it to the Cub Scout pack meeting last Thursday (although they did win *that* game, and it was a real fun one to watch); we weren’t done at the park until a half hour after the meeting was over, and we couldn’t leave early because one kid was missing (in addition to the one with the broken arm) so there wouldn’t have been enough kids to play.

It was a lot of fun to watch the kids get their third place medals. They were the bottom seed, in 8th place, coming into the playoffs so it was really exciting that they got medals. Here is Luke wearing his proudly after the game:

I’ve been stitching here and there, especially last weekend when it was ridiculously hot. I haven’t taken progress pictures in awhile so here are a few that I took recently:

Brightneedle’s “Dollhouse” (almost done now!):

Ink Circle’s “Blackstone Fantasy Garden:

Chatelaine’s “Japanese Garden” (my current focus piece):

And finally, a small start that I’ll probably finish pretty quickly, Brittercup’s “Britty Kitty Basking in the Sun”:

Tonight is another one of those crazy “how are we supposed to eat?” nights. Luke’s baseball team won their playoff game on Monday (yay…right?). There was a little drama between coaches (that’s what happens when the league assigned umpire doesn’t show to a playoff game I guess) but Luke scored the winning run after getting hit by a pitch to end up on base.

But yeah, back to tonight. He has to be at the park at 4pm for practice. His game is 5pm-7:30pm. His Cub Scout pack meeting is 6:45pm-7:45pm. He’s supposed to get his Tiger badge tonight (at 7:30, because the Cubmaster is understanding); there’s a little award ceremony and everything. And it’s Thursday so I have choir practice at 7:45. I’ve already e-mailed the choir director to let her know I’ll be getting there a little late. I guess I’ll have Tom pick up something for dinner that we can eat during the game and feed to Luke while he’s waiting to bat. The good news is that after this there are only three more games at most, and it would be a really big deal to get all the way to that last game. Of course after the way the season went (ranked 8th out of 8) I really wasn’t expecting him to still be playing in the 4th playoff game, it being double elimination and all. At least we knocked out all of the week’s homework last night, except for the practice spelling test. I sure am looking forward to the three day weekend!

Flowers, that is. Last Friday I finished a small Sweetheart Tree design called “Fiesta Flowers”. It was a quick stitch, only needed three colors, and was a fun diversion from the other projects I currently have in process. I’ve been spending a lot of time on Brightneedle’s “Dollhouse” lately; I now have six rooms completely done and each of the other six are over half done (some are more like three quarters done).

Luke’s baseball team won a playoff game yesterday so they get to continue on. It was miserably cold; I don’t think we left the field until after 7:30 last night. I guess we get to do this again next week then…yay…

Oh yeah, here’s the picture of my fun finish:

If ever there was a week that I was glad it was Friday, it’s this one. It’s been a tough week. I came down with a wretched sinus cold last weekend; I think I went through half a box of kleenex at Luke’s little league game on Saturday. Then Tom was out of town Tuesday and Wednesday; I’m really used to the help in the morning. I can certainly get Luke ready on my own and everything, but it’s a little more difficult when you’re so sick you just want to collapse. On top of all that I had a busy week at work, and then was hit with a migraine yesterday. At least I think that’s what it was. I get migraine auras and I had those symptoms. I have a couple common triggers at the moment and had the most excruciating pain in the back of my head, unlike anything I’ve ever experienced before. I am enough better today that I no longer want to die, but I’d like to go home and take a nap for a day or two. I have been sick so many times this year and I’m really over it!

I have a couple finishes that I haven’t shared in awhile. Here are the pictures, hopefully; I’m having some problems with loading pictures here at the moment.
