First Grade!

Today is Luke’s first day of first grade. I can’t believe it! Here are a couple of pictures:

With his new backpack:

I can’t believe he’s in first grade. We finished up the summer with a trip to Knott’s Soak City in Chula Vista on Monday. At 49.5 inches tall he could go on everything. And he did! Even the super fast scary slides that I wasn’t sure I wanted to go on (I did, though; couldn’t be shamed by the six year old!). I was really amazed though at how fearless he was; he didn’t even hesitate.

There isn’t a single kid in his first grade class that was in his kindergarten class but his good friend, Aidan, is in his class. We’ve known her and her family since they were 2.5 and in preschool. She and her aunt went with us Monday to Soak City. He knew several kids in his class from t-ball and the after school program (ESS) so he’ll be fine. I hope he does okay with the longer school day! Soccer practice starts tomorrow afternoon; we bought new cleats, shin guards, and a ball yesterday since the ones from last year were all too small. Just like that summer is over and the whirlwind of activities has begun!

    He’s so tall!!

Wow… I can’t believe Luke is in first grade…it doesn’t seem that long ago and I was reading blog entries about a *much* younger little boy!

Cute pictures! Ethan starts second grade on Monday. He was lucky – everyone in his kindergarten class was in his first grade class. His two closest friends at school he’s known since he was in daycare – Sydney started there at the same age as Ethan (less than a year old), and Alex started when he turned 3. It’s so cool that he’s got those friendships – I never had long-term friends when I was in school (my dad was in the Air Force).

He’s really looking like a ‘big boy’ now, Jill! Where does time go? Sue
